Do you feel like you are the pioneer running ahead of everyone else? Like you are clearing the path and pushing aside the branches for people behind you?
It’s not always easy, is it? In fact, it can be downright uncomfortable! Even though it’s where you usually find yourself, sometimes you wish someone else would take a turn.
I know. It can be a lonely place, too.
And if you are the one who waits for the path ahead to be cleared before you venture out, why should you care about the actions of the pioneer?
The truth is, there are aspects of the pioneer that you can apply to your own life.
You as Pioneer Trailblazer
The pioneer is an initiator, a pathfinder, a trailblazer. The pioneer is one who is willing, drawn, perhaps even compelled, to venture into unknown territory. Into the creation or discovery of something new. If you are a pioneer, you have a penchant for exploration with the willingness to forge the path itself.
Maybe you don’t even have a picture yet of what it is, only a feeling or idea that you are following. You are out on the edge, exploring something that feels important enough to leave the familiar behind.
So even though it might be nice to take a break from this role, that wouldn’t be comfortable for very long. It’s your inner nature that has you exploring the new terrain.
The Inner Journey as Impetus for Taking Action
Your ever-unfolding inner journey provides the seeds for action taken in the outer world.
The pioneer takes deliberate action, not making a change simply for its own sake. Often, as an existing project completes, a new picture from the pioneering mind emerges, initiating a different course. The pioneering spirit uses the project as a springboard, channeling what has been learned into other aspects of life.
Even If You Are Not
Each of us is responsible for creating our own life. So in truth, you could say that you are a pioneer for yourself. Even if there is no one following behind you. (And you never really know that, do you?)
What new trails are you ready to blaze? What paths are you forging? The path only materializes as you are willing to step into the unknown.
Take your first step. Why?
Because that’s when the next one appears.
Reflection Time
Take a breath. Release it. Take another. Devote some dedicated time of concentration/meditation. It doesn’t need to be hours of quiet, perhaps only 15 minutes. Then allow the question to simmer within you. Let responses bubble up into your awareness. Notice new ways of thinking, of images or ideas that arise spontaneously. Pay attention to your dreams. Let it happen. Be aware. See where it leads you next. Let yourself savor this process of receiving from yourself. Don’t judge whatever comes up, just receive it. Make notes.
You may want to share something from this process. Sharing is an important way to anchor an insight in your body. It can lead you to deeper insight. It can stimulate action. Feel free to share whatever moves you.

Great site and post. “Each of us is responsible for creating our own life.” Exactly!
Glad you are here, Andrew! Anything you care to share of how you are creating your life? Laurie
I want to be a pinieer in my own life, therefore I signed up on this great web site to learn from you all by participating forums and various discussions that will help me to grow, inspire people behind me and write my stories.
Dear readers, I am very sorry, my English is not good because I used to use French in Burundi, a developing country in Central of Africa.
Thank you to Laurie and others for helping me to grow and develop my stories in form of books.
Jean-Claude.
Cher Jean-Claude–Merci beaucoup for your sentiments and for your desire to create. I do also suggest that you put this request into the Transformational Authors LinkedIn group as a discussion. There will likely be people there who will also be interested in your journey.
Are you writing now? Begin! Feel free to also post comments here to any discussion that has meaning for you–either in English or in French. I’ll be able to read your French, even if I choose to respond in English. And there are others who are native french speakers. Laurie
This post has sparked something with me 🙂 I am going through major life changes – my marriage of 23 years is ending and I am trying to get my own holistic healing business off the ground. There are so many times when I feel intense fear, as if so much is out of my control. Yet, your post has changed something for me. The idea of being a “pioneer”, while being empowering also allows space for and acknowledgement of, the struggle. The idea of allowing room for both, that both are valid and have their place, has created a new way of thinking for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Oh yes, Theresa! Both experiences have their place–they both exist, don’t they? I remember a quite similar time in my life (marriage ending and starting a new business at the same time). You already know that you have to keep moving forward in the face of the fear. Truly, not much is in your control except for your attitude towards it all. That can allow you to receive in so many new ways, because when we think we can control our situation, we automatically limit what happens. Thank you for sharing yourself! Laurie
