How do you orient with a changing landscape when everything becomes possible?
In this last week in Paris my own process of orienting with change has an unexpected component.
I had thought that preparing to return home would feel easy. After all, I was returning to what was familiar. Instead I feel myself again in the void, with a not-quite-comfortable rock in my stomach. I start to fill the space with questions like, “Have I done what I came to do?”; “Do I want to stay?”; “What am to return home with?”; “Is there something else that is to happen here?”
I take a few breaths to settle myself into this new space of emptiness.
My inner questioning shifts. What is it that is calling to be explored? Is there some action I need to take?
Orienting with change
There are more open doors than answers. There is more that is unknown — the possibilities — than there is certainty of direction. The part of me that wants to know is not fully comfortable. My past experience reminds me that the change I feel within myself will take physical time and patience to unfold. I came to Paris to create external space in which to write and to see what was next in my life. Even though I am returning to my home, my job and friends and family, I feel un-tethered. It is as if everything and anything is possible.
What I have received is internal space. As I settle into this luminous opening, any sense of concern or expectation vanishes. I feel a sense of trust that something will indeed unfold.
And I continue to pay attention. I don’t want to miss the twists and turns of this precious time for navigation!
What is changing for you right now? Pay attention, as deeply as you can.
Time for Reflection
Take a breath. Release it. Take another. Devote some dedicated time of concentration/meditation. It doesn’t need to be hours of quiet, perhaps only 15 minutes. Then allow the question to simmer within you. Let responses bubble up into your awareness. Notice new ways of thinking, of images or ideas that arise spontaneously. Pay attention to your dreams. Let it happen. Be aware. See where it leads you next. Let yourself savor this process of receiving from yourself. Don’t judge whatever comes up, just receive it. Make notes.
You are invited to share something from this process. Sharing anchors insights in your body. It leads you to deeper insight. It stimulates action. Feel free to use this arena to share whatever moves you.
