Like acquiring a taste for sushi, it has taken me many years to be willing to pay attention to my inner voice. I am sure “my voice” had tried to reach me before, but this scenario seemed like an anomaly, as it captured my attention out of the blue.
One morning as I woke up, my thoughts focused on Cape May, New Jersey. It was a cold grey winter morning, the kind of day you want to stay in and warm yourself by the fire or throw the covers over your head and go back to sleep. The oddity was not just the thought, but what I found myself saying out loud: “I am going to the shore today.”
Odd statement for the time of year! I began to question the adventure and what preparation I needed to do. Since it was still early, there was little to do but let the information come forward. It became clear I was to contact a real estate agent I knew and look at properties. I called the office (this was before cell phones) and spoke to Sue and gave her my version of what I thought I wanted to see. Next step: road trip. I arrived at the office a couple of hours later and Sue was on the phone. I decided to wait in the reception area and scan the wall filled with information sheets on properties for sale (a different form of communication 25 years before the internet!).
Suddenly, without thinking, I reached for one of the sheets, tore it off and reviewed a specific property. When I met with Sue I asked her to add it to the list of properties to see. She was a bit reluctant because of the property’s history. After visiting her list of properties, we arrived at the one on the sheet. “This is the property I have come to buy.” Who knew? I went inside and saw a largely blank canvas. The duplex was absolutely blah!
My action: I wrote an agreement of sale and bought the property. After closing, I set out to build the environment I envisioned and it turned out to be a winner! In 4 years I doubled my money. This was the beginning of my sensitivity training. Over the following 25 years I bought and sold 32 properties, each through listening to my inner guidance. Every property had some inner connection as my sensitivity to real estate grew.
I began to internalize the evolution of my inner voice and to understand that the inner voice can be applied to everyday life. I believe each of us has inner sensitivities, areas of life that draw our attention and manifestations that occur out of a seemingly fleeting thought. As my confidence and willingness grew, the trust in this voice has grown to be my guiding life force. For example, this blog is the manifestation of our — Laurie’s and my — inner voices.
