Paris Quartet No.3: Transition… Adopting Change

transitionWhat’s on the other side of transition?

I’ve come to Paris for a month. I wanted to give myself space for something new to emerge. I did this deliberately, stepping away from my familiar terrain: my job, my home and my language.

My body had to deal with the anxiety of all this transition in the midst of my desire to experience what was new!

Sometimes you have to give your body time to catch up with your intention.

Everyday Differences

Towards the end of week three I find myself more at ease with everyday differences. I’ve allowed myself to settle into a new rhythm, finding the structure for my life emerging from an internal orientation.

Normally I am quite focused and organized, able to accomplish whatever I set out to do. For this experience, I found that orientation got in my way. I had to take myself through my expectations of what this time would afford me, in order to allow for what it is.

I’m having time to write and to be quiet. It’s delicious. The few external elements I’ve created, like French class and getting food at the marvelous markets, provide the interactive space between my inner experience and the outer world.

transitionI sense myself becoming a part of something larger than myself, rather than simply being a visitor. I feel a new level of relaxation. It’s come through the willingness to embrace the changes that have been taking place, along with space to discover rather than to expect.

Is there a move in your life that you are contemplating?

What is the risk of taking the plunge? Is there a specific timing and purpose to taking action? What changes would you like these actions to shift in your life? Explore the transition as you navigate the change.

Time to Reflect

Take a breath. Release it. Take another. Devote some dedicated time of concentration/meditation. It doesn’t need to be hours of quiet, perhaps only 15 minutes. Then allow the question to simmer within you through the weekend. Let responses bubble up into your awareness. Notice new ways of thinking, of images or ideas that arise spontaneously. Pay attention to your dreams. Let it happen. Be aware. See where it leads you next. Let yourself savor this process of receiving from yourself. Don’t judge whatever comes up, just receive it. Make notes.

You may want to share something from this process. Sharing is an important way to anchor an insight in your body. It leads to deeper insight. It stimulates action. Feel free to use this arena to share what moves you.
