Quiet your life, unfold your purpose, inspire your future

Inspiration is: 1) an inspiring or animating action or influence; 2) a divine influence directly and immediately exerted upon the mind or soul; 3) the drawing of air into the lungs; inhalation. Therefore, to inspire yourself is a divine action.

inspireMost importantly, inspiration is a breath away.

Imagine what would change if you could be inspired whenever it was needed. Have a project that has gotten stalled? Your kids’ clamoring for a bedtime story that haven’t heard before? Size has no bearing on the call for inspiration.

How can you inspire yourself?

Ever notice how when you are working hard to solve a problem, the solution seems elusive? Then answers come to you while sleeping, in the shower, taking a walk, or cooking dinner. They come when you are relaxed.

Here is the key: Inspiration is rooted in the act of breathing. Breathing not only keeps your physical body alive, it energizes you. Remember that the breath has intelligence. Your body knows exactly how to work with the chemical interaction.

Yet there is far more taking place than a simple exchange of gases. The breath has an energetic charge that your body is decoding all the time.

When you bring your awareness to your breath, you electrify it. Your thoughts expand so that you are able to connect with fresh possibilities. When you breathe with a feeling of appreciation for receiving, you open the door to connecting with your divine inspiration.

Life is so much bigger than you realize.

How silence is connected with purpose

Physicists continue to discover previously unknown dimensions. Think of the vastness of all there is, including what is yet-to-be discovered, as Universal Mind. When you quiet yourself and enter into the deep inner silence, you are able to connect with Universal Mind. You inspire yourself.

In the silence, dimensions that were outside of your conscious awareness can come to your attention. As you bring these into your life, your intellect is not abandoned; it simply moves into an expanded relationship with these dimensions.

In the silence, as your breath brings calm to your body, you realize a connection with purpose is being formed. The breath has the potential to connect you with your purpose. Purpose is not static. It is not something you “discover;” it’s something you feel, a dynamic that is always unfolding. So how do you stay aligned with purpose?  When you bring consciousness to the breath, you are able to feel the ongoing support of your inner connection. Each interaction in the quiet brings you to trusting and knowing more about your intimate relationship with Self.

Moment-by-moment you can engage with life in the present. When you are present, the past disappears.  As you stay in the present moment life becomes more of a dance. There is a gentle participation with life that is inspired.

You are connected with the pulse of life.

“Do you pay regular visits to yourself? Start now.”

~ Rumi

Taking time to reflect

inspireTake a breath. Release it. Take another. Devote some dedicated time of concentration/meditation. It doesn’t need to be hours of quiet, perhaps only 15 minutes. Then allow the question to simmer within you through the weekend. Let responses bubble up into your awareness. Notice new ways of thinking, of images or ideas that arise spontaneously. Pay attention to your dreams. Let it happen. Be aware. See where it leads you next. Let yourself savor this process of receiving from yourself. Don’t judge whatever comes up, just receive it. Make notes.

You may want to share something from this process. Sharing is an important way to anchor an insight in your body. It leads you to deeper insight. It stimulates action.

  1. Thank you for this inspiring post. I like your insight about how one’s purpose is not something static but something we feel and that is always unfolding. It actually brings a sense of relief and peace to think of one’s purpose like that instead of looking at it as a fixed goal. I also love the exercise. I have noticed that the really good/wise/deep insights come when I let go of thinking and become a ‘hollow bone’ as Fools Crow described it. The complete opposite of what we learn growing up and in school (at least that’s my experience).

    1. It is the opposite of what learned in school as well, Marianne! Thank you for bringing to light that sense of peace in realizing the unfolding nature of purpose. It removes the sense of being driven to find it. If I am feeling driven, it keeps me from the ongoing discovery.

  2. Lovely post, as always! Isn’t true how often our minds are in the past or looking toward the future when we live in the here and now! Thanks for the reminder to breath and be present!

  3. I really like being directed to “the vastness of all there is, including what is yet-to-be discovered.” Simultaneously exciting and humbling. Thanks!

  4. Enjoyed your thoughtful and practical post. I particularly connected with the phrase “As you stay in the present moment life becomes more of a dance.”

    1. Yep–It’s only in the present that you get to connect with your ever-evolving purpose, Deserie.

  5. Being quiet and being present are very important issues for me. I totally agree that these two concepts also encourage each other. By being quiet, one can savor the present, which is vital to a life of living. Living in the present and being aware of living in the present can provide insights, ideas, and directions that can improve your life. I know that because it has happened to me.
