Life is full of such twists and turns. Shift left, go right, full stop: you are required to respond! Sometimes though, it’s just too much to handle. And that doesn’t leave you feeling very courageous, does it?
In a quiet moment you find yourself wondering if your life is really on the right track—one that feels dynamic and fulfilling to you.
You’re tired of looking to others for approval.
You imagined your choices and actions would by now have brought more inner peace…intimacy…less self-judgment.
Ah, clarity
Clarity would feel so good! Knowing which direction to take, so your actions feel aligned with your inner desire. On purpose.
Instead you feel a vague uneasiness—as if there is something you’re supposed to be doing, but you don’t quite know what it is.
Take a deep breath. Breath into your courageous self.
How would that look?
Consider…
Do you have the willingness to explore new frontiers without holding back from the unknown, even if that means you must leap tall buildings with a single bound? Traversing that distance takes a courageous heart, one unwilling to settle for “just enough.”
If you are brave of heart the journey of discovery awaits. Inner research requires curiosity about yourself. Being judgmental just gets in the way.
Set aside any expectations or limitations so you can freely discover yourself. Make space for something magnificent to happen. Remember: there are greater gifts to come than you could have imagined.
The courageous dance of life
Self-discovery? Inner research? Let me explain. Inner research needs quiet time and patience. Your body needs to feel relaxed so that your inner compass—your feeling body—can give you direction. Asking questions in this quiet, relaxed space connects you with inner guidance. It helps to sit and write your questions as a dialogue or to journal. Writing can help you discover new pictures and the means for manifesting them. In other words, answers to your questions.
Listening to inner direction and taking action creates life’s dance. As the dance unfolds, your actions and experiences teach you more about discernment. Your choices build a new intimacy with yourself. This becomes a foundation for taking each next step.
What can you expect to discover?
- New insight into challenging situations
- How to navigate through life’s changes
- Unexpected solutions
- New pictures of what is possible
- A deep intimate inner relationship
- A feeling of inner peace
- An unfolding sense of purpose that moves you through life
If you are the adventurer ready for discovery, Inner Research will become your new way of living.
Give yourself some time to go inside yourself. To ask yourself questions, to inquire and to reflect. Inside is where the discovery happens. Outside is where you take action prompted by your inner reflection time.
You’re ready, aren’t you, oh courageous one?
Yes you are, because you can.
Reflection Time
Take a breath. Release it. Take another. Devote some dedicated time of concentration/meditation. It doesn’t need to be hours of quiet, perhaps only 15 minutes. Then allow the question to simmer within you. Let responses bubble up into your awareness. Notice new ways of thinking, of images or ideas that arise spontaneously. Pay attention to your dreams. Let it happen. Be aware. See where it leads you next. Let yourself savor this process of receiving from yourself. Don’t judge whatever comes up, just receive it. Make notes.
You may want to share something from this process. Sharing is an important way to anchor an insight in your body. It leads you to deeper insight. It stimulates action.

Laurie, this really resonates with me right now because I am doing Deepak and Oprah’s 21 day meditation experience. I am amazed at the knowing I receive when I turn inward for reflection and guidance. And, doing it consistently for more than a week now, same time, same place, has reinforced the value in making time for reflection a priority in my daily life. Thank you for the perfect timing!
I’m glad it was perfect timing, Sheila!
Sometimes I am surprised at just how much slowing needs to take place in order to be able to “hear.” Thanks for a lovely reminder.
You are most welcome, Andrea.
I appreciate your emphasis on the courage and dedication involved with inner research. It’s not always easy. It’s probably always worthwhile.
It has been so incredibly worthwhile for me, Chara. I would not be able to have any flow with life without it.
Staying curious is one of the kingpins of life. Curiosity combined with creativity is magical, throw in some courage and voila – Unstoppable. I posted on my Facebook Timeline about this just today! Excellent thought provoking post Laurie!
Thanks Debra! I certainly agree with you about curiosity being one of the “kingpins of life.”
I love this idea about being an inner researcher. Very clever! My favorite two sentences? “Inner research require curiosity about yourself. Judgement just gets in the way.” Well said!
Glad you enjoyed it, Tiffany. Thanks for coming by!
